OTS-probe is developed for oceanography with 16 bit resolution and high precision at depths down to 6000 m.
Sensors are available for C, T, D, O2, sound velocity (sing around method), current speed (acoustic phase shift), light attenuation, bottom indication and sensors from other manufacturers.
Altogether up to 15 sensors can be attached to one probe system. "Housekeeping" data are transmitted on the 16. channel.
The transmission rate is 9600 bit/s enabling 10 scans/s.
Moreover their is an command-channel to activate samplers, stirrers, pumps or other actuators.
The sensors are guarded by a protection cage, which itself can serve as a frame to carry the external sensors or actuators.
The electric power is fed to the probe by a constant current of 200 mA. The voltage demand depends on the number of sensors installed and the cable length. At short cables up to 100 m length the probe can be driven directly from battery voltage between 10 and 14 V and the RS232 to a PC.
To avoid corrosion bottom and top are made of titanium. For the pressure tube normally stainless steel is used which can also be replaced by titanium.
Together with the ME-components:
a complete measurement system especially for small vessels is formed.
Of course OTS-probes can be operated together with the big oceanographic winches installed on many research vessels.
